Slim•Fast is a brand of shakes, bars, snacks, packaged meals, and other dietary supplement foods sold in the U. Well since my little girl was born I've been trying to lose weight I'm so rubbish at sticking to a diet for any length of time so the weight keeps creeping back on again. I want to try a shake diet for a couple of weeks just to drop some pounds and get my motivation up again but I don't know which to do. I was going to try Slimfast but I'd rather do one that I just add water to because that would be easier when I'm out and about. With slimfast I was really strict and followed the instructions (ie the two shakes and a dinner of 600 though I would aim for less) with Tesco I sometimes substituted the shakes for meals of the same calorie value, I mainly used them to start me off to get me used to eating less and for when I was out. I bought the tesco ones over the slimfast initially based on price and was pleasantly suprised that I actually liked them as much. I also tried the asda ones and they were disgusting! I would def advise against going down the powder and water route. They taste horrible, quite bitty and are a pain to make cos you need to measure the powder and the water and you'll need a large cup with a lid to mix it up in. A friend told me about Jason Vale and the juice plan. That's just with replacing two meals a day with the juices and having a healthy meal in the evening(nothing heavy or stodgy). The juices taste great and I don't feel hungry. They contain all the nutrients you need too, so you don't feel worn out like you would on a diet. I then got pregnant so stopped doing the diet but will start it again once I have little man.

The warning was raised in a press release about a large study which found that for people aged 50-65, eating a lot of protein was associated with an increased risk of dying. However, the study, which assessed the diets of Americans in a single 24-hour period (rather than long-term), found in those aged over 65 that a high protein diet was actually associated with a reduced risk of death from any cause or from cancer. In this study, on average people ate 51% of their calories in the form of carbohydrates, 33% as fat and 16% as protein (11% animal protein). The headlines suggesting a high protein diet is “as harmful as smoking” was not a specific finding of the study and could be seen as unnecessary fear-mongering. This is particularly of note given that the effects of a high protein diet were found to differ dramatically by age. This study looked at the relationship between the amount of protein consumed and subsequent risk of death among middle aged and older adults. The researchers had data on protein consumption for 6,381 US adults aged 50 and over (average age 65). Each person’s level of protein consumption was calculated as the proportion of calories consumed from protein. The researchers looked at whether proportion of calories consumed from protein was related to risk of death overall, or from specific causes. The researchers also looked at whether the relationship differed in people aged 50-65 years, and older individuals, and whether it was influenced by fat, carbohydrate or animal protein intake. The researchers found that results for death from any cause and from cancer seemed to vary with age. However, the opposite effect of high protein intake was seen among those aged over 65. The researchers concluded that low protein intake during middle age followed by moderate to high protein consumption in older adults may optimise health and longevity. Although the study was reasonably large, numbers in some comparisons were relatively low, for example, there were not many diabetes-related deaths and only 437 people overall ate a low protein diet. While the authors suggested that people eat a low protein diet in middle age and switch to a high protein diet once they get older, it is not possible to say from the study whether this is what the older participants actually did, as their diets were only assessed once.
